"The Open Boat" by Stephen Crane analysis

In the Literature class, we have been working with the story "The Open Boat" by Stephen Crane. We had to make an infography to explain the themes. I did my Piktochart with Manuela.

  1. Girls, well done!! Lovely pictures.
    Below are my comments:

Optimism: why was it crucial to stay hopeful? What do you mean when you say that the characters preferred to stay silent than to express their thoughts? Which were those thoughts and why did they kept them for themselves?
Nature's indifference: very good. I would add that, just as this current was a new enemy, then there's a wave which becomes a 'friend' since it drags the correspondent out of the current. This shows that nature is not hostile nor beneficial, just indifferent.
Society as meaningful: I would add that, since there seems to be no god/nature watching over us, caring for us, it's only us, humans, who give meaning to ourselves, to our lives, hopes, efforts and struggles.
Man's insignificance: the correspondent becomes aware of the fact that he/they are not important, the universe would not suffer, or even notice, their deaths.
    Mark: 9 (nine)
